Why India? – For the Adventurous Woman
India is a vast land of glorious colour, spectacular sights and some of the most amazing culture you will ever experience. Often, because of its huge diversity and far unknown corners, luxury travel seekers are wary of India.
This blog is a carefully selected set of questions about traveling to India compiled by the staff at Emperor Tours and asked to a couple of seasoned India Adventurist! More specifically, they are my parents… They are 60 and 64 and they have been travelling to India every year for about 8 years… They literally cannot get enough!!!
Shortly after Christmas every year I will hear my father utter the words “India is calling” and I know this marks the start of their next grand adventure…

Many of our more mature travel lovers are concerned about safety and security when travelling to India and I have to say the first time I waved my parents off at the airport on their first Indian Adventure I was scared, scared about what the hotels would be like, would they have the comforts they deserve? Will they be safe? Will the staff look after them? Will they like the food?? I needn’t have worried. They came home after a month travelling from…. to ….. and they had the time of their lives!!! They had seen sights that touches their very souls, they had eaten food that tasted like it came from heaven, they had relaxed on beaches that you could only imagine in your most beautiful of dreams… That was it… they were India junkies!!!!
Below is the accumulation of my mothers reasons for loving India, why she went, why she went back repeatedly, what it meant to her, what she brought home with her and much much more… My fathers account is also available in a separate blog, I think their experiences differ hugely because of their perspective and I want to portray this with these blogs.
Why did you decide to explore India rather than other countries which may be considered more “tourist friendly”?
Because I wanted to see the unusual and the ‘real India’, and I wanted to see a culture completely different from my own.
Before you went to India what did you need to consider in terms of paperwork and visas etc?
You can have a month or 3 month visa depending on the length of your stay. I know the one month can be got on line, not sure about the 3 month one. Indian Government is very pedantic on exact paperwork, so get this right.
Did you have reservations about travelling to India and if so what were they?
Not really, India is a relatively safe country in this world and we were on a tour so I felt safe.
When you arrived in India what was your first impression?
Wow! An overload on all senses, you need time to acclimatise to that. The chaos was great and the difference between our culture and theirs.
Did you find the language barrier to be an issue when travelling in india?
Most people from India speak English but in the more remote areas it was a barrier.
What resources did you use whilst travelling in India? Did you take modern technology with you?
My husband took his laptop and ipod and I took my phone.
How much money did you take for a long stay? For a luxury level holiday how much should I tip and how much do things cost?
I can’t answer that as my husband handles the money, I know I shopped till I dropped and it was fabulously inexpensive to buy beautiful hand made Indian clothes and trinkets. Simply beautiful.
Where did you go and what did you see? What would you recommend?
We toured around Bengal the first time we went and Kerala on the second time. India is a huge continent and very different as you move through it so research is necessary for you to pick an area or a tour which covers what you might want to see.
Kerala is also known as Gods Own Country – To find out more visit >> https://emperor-tours.com/destinations/india/beach-holidays/kerala-gods-own-country/
Is India a safe place to travel and explore?
Yes, we have travelled India quite a lot and never felt unsafe. You always have to use your intelligence and take usual precautions but in general it is safe. There are many ways to explore India from guided tours to trains. Do not attempt to drive yourself as it is chaos on the roads and very dangerous if you have not learned there.
If you could summarise India in a sentence, what would you say?
It is not for some or the faint hearted but if you love it you will always love it and can’t wait to get back as there is always something new you wish to see.
What does India embody to you?
It fulfils my desire to see the different, from a family of 5 on a motorbike, to a huge Water Buffalo in a Pickup truck to an ancient temple, or a beautiful tropical deserted beach.
Why would you recommend travelling to India?
Yes… Absolutely, again and again and again.
