What to pack for a tour of Asia?

What to pack for a tour of Asia?

Find out from our suggested lists below…

Don’t know about you, but by the time we have booked our next adventure my mind is so full of wonder and excitement about the memories we will make, the sights we will see and the fabulous experiences we will have that I always forget to pack in an efficient and useful way!

This generally results in expensive panic buying at the airport and stress for everyone involved.

How useful would it be to have a fool proof list for the next adventure of a lifetime!?

So, this is it ladies, the only guide you need to make sure you are equipped for all Asia has to throw at you!

The beautiful thing about this list is that you can pack this amount for a two week holiday and you wouldn’t need to add much to it for a longer trip, providing you remember the travel clothes wash!

Obviously the more luxury you add onto your trip of a lifetime the less you need to remember to pack… for us on this trip however we needed to make sure we had it all covered!

Ok so…what goes in the case?

 Clothes

  • Vets tops x5
  • T shirts – mainly for sleeping in but also useful if its laundry day and you have somewhere to be!
  • Shorts x3
  • Linen or loose fitted long trousers /yoga pants x2 – long enough to cover up but not hot and sticky!
  • Swimwear – this is a personal choice, I only ever take three, however long I go for but everyone is different!
  • Socks x 1 – just incase!
  • Underwear x however many nights you are there
  • Cardigans / throw over – great for covering up in more conservative regions or if its chilly at night!
  • Lightweight rain mac – fold up in a bad ones are ideal to keep the rain off should you encounter a tropical storm!

Its going to be wise to pack mostly light weight fabrics such as cotton and linen, the likelihood is, it will be hot and sticky at times and nylon or polyester will not be your friend!

The key to dressing correctly when travelling in Asia is to look up the regions prominent religion, much of Asia is casually dressed, however it is important to remain respectful of other cultures, for example, when travelling in muslim countries such as Bangladesh it is best to cover up a lot more than you would at a full moon party in Thailand!

Toiletries & Medical

  • Plasters / bandages / wound cream / antihistamine cream
  • Insect repellent
  • Wet wipes – not just for babies… clean hands and face on the go are great for adults too, and sometimes travel is sticky!!
  • Toothbrush and paste
  • Antibacterial hand gel – always used more than I anticipate!
  • Deodorant – I use a Lush bar deodorant when I travel as I know its not going to leak or explode on all my clothes in the case!
  • Make up – Entirely optional, I never wear mine on holiday but I always have a little on me just incase I feel the need!
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Shower gel
  • Hair ties and brush
  • Sun cream – often the sun cream sold in Asia has whitening ingredients in it so best to make sure you have enough to last you!
  • Razor
  • Aftersun lotion
  • Coconut oil – a huge space saver this one is! Can be used as after sun, lip balm, moisturiser… some even brush their teeth with it! Beware of using it before sun exposure however as this may result in burning!!
  • Feminine Hygiene Products – These can be a nightmare to find in Asia!
  • Travel probiotics – Holland and Barret have a variety of these which can be a god send if you find yourself in a sticky situation with different foods!
  • Anti malarial medication or other such medication depending on the region you are visiting – click the link to find out more about these types of medication and how they may apply to you >>

Miscellaneous

  • Travel clothes wash / Washing sheets
  • Beach towels
  • Passport
  • Travel Insurance documents
  • Passport photos – often useful for visas in some areas.
  • Travel tissues
  • Cards/ cash/ travellers cheques
  • Eye mask & ear defenders

Shoes

  • Flip flops x 2
  • Sandals x1
  • Trainers (adventure shoes) x1

Accessories

  • Hats – take at least one… I don’t have good hair for hats but it was a life saver on several days!
  • A light material scarf or pashmina – great for desert visits and boat rides etc…
  • Jewellery – I always leave mine at home apart from a simple pair of stud earrings but sometimes there is definitely space for some bling!
  • Sarong or “beach scarf” as I prefer to call it

Electrical items

  • ipod
  • Wireless speaker
  • Kindle
  • Camera / Phone
  • Headphones
  • Chargers

That’s about it! Apart from the kitchen sink!!! There are a few things you need to be aware of when embarking on an Asian Adventure of any kind.

Asia is a vast and ever-changing continent, because of its sheer size it is difficult to advise travellers on which customs to observe in which areas, as one area of Asia can be completely different to another in terms of culture and customs, and even climate!

The best advice is to book your adventure through a reliable and experienced tour guide, this way you can rest assured that not only will you be able to make the most of their prior knowledge and experience of Asia but you can do so safely and with the best and most relevant advice.
