Myanmar, perhaps better known as Burma, is a country waiting to be discovered. Explore a country as yet unspoiled by mass tourism, rich in natural resources offering incredible landscapes and breathtaking temples. This is a wonderful country that is bound to delight and surprise you.
 
Day 1 UK Departure

Depart the UK with international economy flight to Yangon. We can also arrange departures from your local airport at no extra cost.

Day 2 Yangon arrival

Mingalabar and welcome to Myanmar! Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel. We will begin our exploration of Yangon with a photo stop at Mayor’s Hall and Mahabandoola Park, followed by a walk around the City Centre and Colonial Districts of Yangon

Afternoon, visit Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha Image and Shwedagon Pagoda, which rises 326 ft (99.3 m) above its base. Erected more than 2500 years ago and enshrining eight hairs of Buddha placed in a treasure chamber deep under its base. It is the highest symbol of the people’s devotion to Buddha. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Dinner at Karaweik Royal Barge Restaurant with Myanmar culture dances.

Day 3 Yangon to Bagan

After breakfast we transfer to the airport and fly to Bagan by scheduled flight (approx: 1 Hr 10 mins flying). We will me met on arrival and transferred to hotel in city centre. Bagan, on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River is home to the largest area of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world, many dating to the 11th and 12th century. The shape and construction of each building is highly significant in Buddhism with each component part taking on spiritual meaning.

We start our sightseeing in Bagan with the colourful Nyaung Oo Local market. We then continue to Kyan-Sit-Thar U Min which was built in the 11th century, into a cliff face, with frescoes. Next stop is Htilominlo situated close to the road between Nyaung U and Bagan, built by king Nantaungmya in 1218 and traces of old murals are also still visible. Then visit Ananda Temple, a whitewashed masterpiece of Mon architecture with four standing Buddhas, and the adjacent brick monastery with beautiful, well-preserved 18th century murals. Continue with Dhamayangyi Temple, a huge brick red temple built by King Narathu, and Sulamani Temple, a beautiful majestic structure built by King Narapati Sithu.

The day is always finished off by going to one of the larger temples to get an incredible sunset view of the entire area; a truly magical experience.

Day 4 Bagan

Today we visit Min Nan Thu village and PayaThonzu, worth for seeing its 13th century mural painting. Continue with Law Ka Nanda Pagoda, with lots of benches for wide open view of the Ayeyarwady River.

This evening enjoy a bike or horse cart ride among the majestic temples of Bagan. An excellent opportunity to get a better appreciation of the true scale of this city.

Day 5 Bagan to Mandalay

This morning sit back and relax as we drive to the Royal Capital of Myanmar’ Mandalay for 4 hrs agreeable scenery along the road side. On arrival check-in to hotel and relax.

In the evening visit Ku ThoDaw Pagoda, also known as world’s largest book, surrounded by 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist scriptures. Proceed to Golden Palace Monastery, which was once part of the palace complex where King Mindon lived.

This evening get your camera ready for a majestic panorama view from Mandalay Hill.

Day 6 Mandalay

After breakfast today we start with a visit to Mahamyatmuni Buddha Image, bronze casting and marble stone cutting craftsmen quarters and gold leaf beaters. Proceed to Sagaing, a town at the foot of Sagaing Hills, dotted with hundreds of pagodas, monasteries and nunneries quarters. In Sagaing visit Soon OoPonya Shin Pagoda, perched on the highest hill which offers panoramic views of the valleys and wide Ayeyarwady River. After the visit continue to U Min Thonze (Hall of thirty Buddhas).

We then drive to Amarapura and enjoy Sunset over U Bein Bridge, a 1.6 km long wooden bridge said to be the longest teak bridge in the world, built over 150 years ago. The bridge links Amarapura with an island in the middle of Lake Taungthaman, an intermittent body of water which dries up during winter.

Day 7 Mandalay to Pindaya

This morning we drive to Pindaya which is a small town of Burmese dialect speaking Danu people, located in a fertile valley bordered by 1700-meter high mountain range in the west. On arrival visit Pindaya Cave – believed to contain more than 8000 Buddha Images of all sizes, carved in wood, stone, marble and bronze.

In the evening walk around the famous “Ponetaloke Lake” and small city.

Day 8 Pindaya to Inle Lake

After breakfast, we visit one of the local 5-day markets. We then visit the Shan paper production cottages which are also interesting to visit where handmade papers are produced from the pulp of mulberry bark dried in the sun. Other cottage industry interesting to visit is oiled paper umbrellas used by monks and nuns. Every part is worked by hand. We then drive to Nyaung Shwe with a photo stop on the way at Shwe Yan Pyay old wooden monastery.

Enjoy sightseeing by boat on the beautiful Inle Lake, second largest lake in Myanmar stretching 11 miles (17.7 km) and home to Inthar national race, many of whom live in stilted houses built over the water. On the boat trip you will visit floating villages and floating gardens, lotus stems weaving. You can also see the Inthar technique of leg-rowing where one leg is wrapped around the paddle to drive the boat and also their traditional way of fishing. We also visit the famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.

Day 9 Inle Lake

This morning explore one of the local 5-day markets, a well-known visit around the lake. The markets are rotating among the villages in regular order – one village becomes the host of the market every 5th day. By visiting 5-day markets, you will get insight into the life-style of the ethnic Pa-O, Danu and Intha inhabitants who came to these markets to sell their goods. The visit to such markets is thus subject to market day calendar and the location of the host village. We continue to a floating souvenir shop at ‘’Ywa ma Village‘’ where we can see the long neck ladies, make weaving demonstration inside.

Afterwards take an enjoyable boat ride through irrigation canals to Indein pagoda complex an archaeological site worthy to visit hundreds of Shan style ruined pagoda standing on a slope of the hill. Some of the pagodas dated back to 17th and 18th centuries.

Day 10 Inle Lake to Yangon

After breakfast transfer to the airport and depart for Yangon by scheduled flight. We will be met on arrival and begin with a photo stop around old colonial buildings district and City Centre. Continue with a visit to Bogyoke Aung San Market (Scott Market). Walk on the busy streets of downtown.

In the evening the pavement turns into a night-market with a variety of goods on display. It is the opportunity to see “the real Yangon”.

After a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight back to UK.

We used Emperor for a group trip to India. they were fantastic with their choice of hotels (some truly incredible) their tour guide, the whole programme and their choice of airlines for the trip. We made things quite tough for them with different members of the group travelling for different periods and arriving in and out of different airports. We specifically had some issues with one of the airlines on the return leg of our trip, through no fault of Emperor, but they did their utmost to put things right and made the journey home as pleasant as possible by meeting the cost of a lounge at the airport for us do to the shortcomings of one of the airlines checking in procedures. The pre holiday package of information was very comprehensive and we were presented with very durable luggage tags. We would have no hesitation in recommending Richard and his team in tailoring a package for a trip to India. We had an amazing culturally stimulating trip and will certainly go back to India in the future.
