Explore the wonders of Myanmar in depth before taking a well earned rest on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Far East. One of the most complete tours of Myanmar, you will experience the wonders of nature and the architecture of ancient civilisations in one whole package.
 
Day 1 UK Departure

Depart the UK with international economy flight to Yangon. We can also arrange departures from your local airport at no extra cost.

Day 2 Yangon Arrival

Mingalabar and welcome to Myanmar! Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel. (Check-in time is approx. 2 pm) As an introduction to Myanmar we have a photo stop at the City Centre and Colonial district of Yangon. We also visit Chaukhtaygyi Reclining Buddha Image.

This evening visit Shwedagon Pagoda rising 326ft (99.3m) above its base. Erected more than 2500 years ago and enshrining eight hairs of Buddha placed in a treasure chamber deep under its base. It is the highest symbol of the people’s devotion to Buddha. Afterwards enjoy a welcome dinner at Karaweik Royal Barge Restaurant with Myanmar Culture Dances.

Day 3 Yangon to Golden Rock

After enjoying your breakfast you will transfer to the airport and depart for Bago by scheduled flight (approx.: 1 hr flying). Upon arrival, Drive to Golden Rock via Bago, ancient capital of Mon Kingdom of 13th to 16th centuries, about 40 miles (65 km) north of Yangon. Before entering Bago we visit Kyaikpun, with the four Buddhas Images sitting in back-to-back position. When then continue on to the Golden Rock for overnight.

Day 4 Golden Rock to Hpa An

This morning take an open truck at Kinpun Base Camp for ascending to the top and from there walk about 10 minutes to Golden Rock pagoda platform. Golden Rock Pagoda is a small spire of 18 ft (5.5 m) believed to enshrine a hair relic of Buddha. It is set a top a huge boulder which in turn is balanced on the edge of a cliff. Tour around the pagoda platform and surroundings, market place and other interesting sites. Take an open truck again for descending back to Kinpun base camp. We then drive to Hpa An – the capital of Kayin state. The real draw is it surroundings with wide lakes, lime stone cliffs and mountain ranges receding into the distance.

Day 5 Hpa An

Today we spend the day exploring the beautiful natural scenery of Hpa an. First a photo stop at Mt.Zwegabin and Lumpani Park which contain 1000 Buddha statues seated under Banyan tree. Next to Kyauk Kalap, standing in the middle of a small lake. Then visit Kaw Goon Cave in Hpa An – the interior wall of Kaw Goon Cave is covered with thousands of tiny clay Buddha images. Down at ground level are also Buddha statues of standing and reclining in various positions. Continue to Bayint Nyi cave, climb about 100 steps to reach Bayint Nyi cave. Before reaching stair cave we can see the natural hot spring.

Day 6 Hpa An to Yangon

After breakfast at the hotel we drive back to Yangon. On the way , stop at Htaukkyant War Cemetery where those who lost their lives in this area during WW II are interred.

Day 7 Yangon to Mandalay

Morning transfer to the airport and depart for Mandalay by scheduled flight. Drive to Amarapura, U Bein Bridge, a 1.6 km long wooden bridge said to be the longest teak bridge in the world, built over 150 years ago. The bridge links Amarapura with an island in the middle of Lake Taungthaman, an intermittent body of water which dries up during winter. Visit Mahagandayone Monastery where over thousands of monks are dwelling. Transfer to Mandalay and visit Mahamuni Golden Buddha Image, bronze casting and marble stone cutting craftsmen quarters and gold leaf beaters.

This afternoon visit Ku Tho Daw Pagoda, also known as world’s largest book, surrounded by 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist scriptures. Proceed to Golden Palace Monastery, which was once part of the palace complex where King Mindon lived. This evening a panoramic view from Mandalay Hill.

Day 8 Mandalay

Following breakfast we drive to the jetty and take a boat trip to Mingune, located on the western bank of the Ayeyarwady River. On arrival in Mingune, we visit the huge unfinished Mingun Pagoda built between 1790 and 1797, which was split by an earthquake in 1838. It is possibly the world’s largest pile of bricks. We also see the World’s largest working bell of 87 tons cast in 1808 by Bodawpaya and Mya Thein Tan pagoda, an image of Sulamani Pagoda at the peak of Mount Meru in Tavatimsa plane of nats.

Proceed to Inwa (Ava), which was founded in 1364 and served as capital of Burmese Kingdom for nearly 400 years. Inwa’s finest attraction to visit is the teak Bagaya Monastery which dates from 1834. The 90 ft high masonry watchtower Nan myin, the leaning tower of Inwa is all that remains of King Bagyidaw’s palace. Later return back to Mandalay and overnight at hotel.

Day 9 Mandalay to Monywa

After breakfast drive to Monywa via Sagaing. Sagaing is a town at the foot of Sagaing Hills, dotted with hundreds of pagodas and monasteries. In Sagaing visit U Min Thonze (Hall of thirty Buddhas), Soon Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda, perched on the highest hill which offers panoramic views of the valleys and wide Ayeyarwady River, and nunnery quarters .

Afternoon, proceed to Monywa and before entering Monywa, if time permits we will visit Thanbodday Pagoda complex with more than 580,000 Buddha Images, all in seated or standing poses, and Bodhi Tataung complex. On arrival in Monywa, check-in at hotel. Monywa located on the eastern banks of Chindwin River is bustling up country town 84 miles (135 km) from Mandalay.

Day 10 Monya to Bagan

This morning we check-out from hotel and drive to Po Win Taung, located on the western bank of Chindwin River. Drive across the Chindwin Bridge for visiting Po Win Taung and Shwe Ba Taung Pagoda cave complex, about 16 miles (26 km) west of Monywa. These complexes of 492 cave temples are packed with 2588 Buddhas and there are beautiful 16th century wall paintings to be seen in some the caves. We then continue to Pakokku, a flourishing trading town on the western banks of Ayeyarwaddy River. On the way stop at one of the many tobacco plantations & cottage industry. We then proceed across the Ayeyarwaddy River by boat to Bagan.

Arrive Bagan and check-in to the hotel. (If time permits, we can visit to one of the convenient places or pagodas to see sunset).

Day 11 Bagan

Start for highlight sightseeing in Bagan. With a choice out of 2800 pagodas and temples to visit, we will visit the most interesting and quieter ones in Bagan away from tourists.

The day is always finished off by going to one of the larger temples to get an incredible sunset view of the entire area; a truly magical experience. For a truly memorable experience we always recommend the optional balloon ride over Bagan – especially at sunrise!

Day 12 Bagan / Mt.Popa

We begin today with a trip to Mt. Popa, about 30 miles (50 km) from Bagan. On the way stop to see skillful toddy-palm climbers collecting the wine on top of the trees, at a toddy palm juice & palm sugar (jaggery) making cottage. Have a taste of this Burmese candy! We then visit a village and see the ways of Myanmar village life. By chance, you can see making oil from peanut and sesame seeds by rotating the cows to mortar and pestle in traditional way.

We continue on and reach Popa Taung Kalut, which is 2417 ft (737 m) standing apart from higher forested mountain and looks like a tower. The mountain was shaped out of a volcano that may have erupted some 250,000 years ago. The 25 minutes climb is steep and stiff and it gets cooler as you get higher, but the effort is worth it as the views are fantastic. Back to Bagan we can sit back and relax as we enjoy a bike or horse cart ride among majestic temples of Bagan – a wonderful way to see Bagan!

Day 13 Bagan to Kalaw

After breakfast we transfer to the airport and depart for Heho by scheduled flight. On arrival drive from Heho to Pindaya Cave – believed to contain more than 8,000 Buddha Images of all sizes, carved in wood, stone, marble and bronze. Shan papers production cottages are also interesting to visit where handmade papers are produced from the pulp of mulberry bark dried in the sun. Other cottage industry interesting to visit is oiled paper umbrellas used by monks and nuns. Every part is worked by hand. Drive from Pindaya to Kalaw, a former British hill station town. Cool, spring-like weather, pine forests, tea plantations and colourfully clad hill tribes make this town to a natural magnet for tourists. In the evening we visit Kalaw Railway Station (built in 1918), the colonial buildings on East Circular Road and walk up the hill to see the Old Catholic Church.

Day 14 Kalaw trekking and homestay experience

This morning we visit the Local Market and then drive to our trekking start point. We start our gentle trek to the “Palaung villages“. They live mainly from agriculture, cultivating chilli, garlic, ground-nut, wheat and sesame. A packed lunch is included as we walk around the villages, observing the everyday life and culture of a now forgotten age. A simple dinner is included before we spend overnight at a monastery/local house.

Day 15 Kalaw to Inle Lake

After a simple breakfast at the monastery in the morning we leave the village. After a short gentle trek we arrive at our meeting point where our car is waiting. Drive to NyaungShwe – on the way we have a photo stop of Shwe Yan Pyay old wooden monastery, pagoda. Take a short boat trip on Inle Lake to reach the hotel. After check-in we have sightseeing by boat on the beautiful Inle Lake, the second largest lake in Myanmar stretching 11 miles (17.7 km) and home to Inthar national race, many of whom live in stilted houses built over the water. On the boat trip you will visit floating villages and floating gardens, and witness lotus stems weaving at Innpawkhone Village. You can also see Inthar technique of leg-rowing where one leg is wrapped around the paddle to drive the boat and also their traditional way of fishing. Visit the famous PhaungDawOo Pagoda.

Day 16 Inle Lake (bike riding and wine tasting)

After breakfast, explore one of the local 5-day markets. The markets are rotating among the villages in regular order – one village becomes the host of the market every 5th day. By visiting 5-day markets, you will get insight into the life-style of the ethnic Pa-O, Danu and Intha inhabitants who come to these markets to sell their goods. The visit to such markets is thus subject to market day calendar and the location of the host village.

Day 17 Inle lake to Ngapali Beach

Today transfer to the airport and depart for Thandwe by scheduled flight. Met on arrival at Thandwe and transfer to the hotel. Rest of day you can enjoy leisure and sea activities on the beach.

Three whole days to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Ngapali.

Day 21 Ngapali to Yangon

This morning we say goodbye to our beach haven, transfer to the airport and depart for Yangon by scheduled flight. Upon arrival we will be met and transfer to hotel for check-in.

This afternoon visit Scott Market which has more than 2,000 shops and a big selection of handicrafts, souvenirs and clothes. We then visit Chinatown in the evening for last minute shopping.

We used Emperor for a group trip to India. they were fantastic with their choice of hotels (some truly incredible) their tour guide, the whole programme and their choice of airlines for the trip. We made things quite tough for them with different members of the group travelling for different periods and arriving in and out of different airports. We specifically had some issues with one of the airlines on the return leg of our trip, through no fault of Emperor, but they did their utmost to put things right and made the journey home as pleasant as possible by meeting the cost of a lounge at the airport for us do to the shortcomings of one of the airlines checking in procedures. The pre holiday package of information was very comprehensive and we were presented with very durable luggage tags. We would have no hesitation in recommending Richard and his team in tailoring a package for a trip to India. We had an amazing culturally stimulating trip and will certainly go back to India in the future.
